Our History

The Story of Kyaddondo CBS PEWOSA SACCO

From humble beginnings to a trusted financial institution serving the Kyaddondo community.

Kyaddondo CBS PEWOSA SACCO Ltd is a member-owned cooperative savings and credit society established to provide accessible, affordable, and sustainable financial services to the people of Kyaddondo County and the wider community.

The SACCO traces its roots to the CBS PEWOSA initiative (Project to Empower Women through Savings and Loan Associations) — a socio-economic empowerment programme launched by CBS FM as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility efforts and in support of the Buganda Kingdom’s vision of poverty eradication and economic transformation.

Inspired by the Buganda Kingdom’s commitment to improving livelihoods through cooperation and financial inclusion, the SACCO was officially formed on 29th January 2019 and registered under the Registrar of Cooperatives. It later obtained its permanent registration certificate and is today a licensed SACCO under the Uganda Microfinance Regulatory Authority (UMRA).

At Kyaddondo CBS PEWOSA SACCO, we believe that cooperation is the foundation of success. Through a customer-centred approach and a community-driven model, we continue to promote financial inclusion, economic empowerment, and sustainable development for our members.

Royal Decree

During the Kabaka’s 25th Coronation Anniversary celebrations on the 31st July 2018, the Kabaka of Buganda Ssaabasajja Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II suggested in his royal speech that “the only way poverty can be alleviated from his subjects is through cooperatives.”

In response, Kyaddondo CBS PEWOSA was launched in 2019 as a special decree from the Kabaka to stimulate the culture of savings and credit in the Buganda Kingdom. The cooperative is constantly guided by and aligned to the Kingdom of Buganda’s social, economic and cultural agenda.
